Our Own Definitions

Words are like weapons
In the wrong hands
They’ll carve you up into pieces
Before you can understand
They’ll put you on your knees
With a chain ‘round your neck
Have you praying to a God
That turns your life to a wreck
Chorus:
They just want power
They want to keep their positions
They want to be in charge
Of the definitions
But the truth is simple
When we get to choose
Make our own definitions
Me and you
Words are like weapons
When you don’t ever question
Who’s designing the phrases
What’s their intention
Black can be white
And a man just a worm
Love can be hate
With the twist of one term
Chorus:
They just want power
They want to keep their positions
They want to be in charge
Of the definitions
But the truth is simple
When we get to choose
Make our own definitions
Me and you
Words are like weapons
But they cut both directions
They can slice through our bondage
If we make their selection
And the world could be different
In the change of one sound
In the choosing of meaning
It might all turn around
Chorus:
They just want power
They want to keep their positions
They want to be in charge
Of the definitions
But the truth is simple
When we get to choose
Make our own definitions
Me and you
